Myriad, the title track from my 1996 solo album, is a high-energy percussion ensemble arrangement in 7/8 with alternating 4/4 sections. It features an unusual, modal-sounding melody on the marimbas which came from a keyboard improvisation I did in my studio one day. I took the original improvisation, which was much longer than presented here, and spliced together a usable "head" (with the help of my computer) and then orchestrated the melody using 4ths. From that original idea, eventually grew a complete piece.
Myriad is made up of several contrasting sections which feature different colors of the percussion ensemble. There is also a chance to "kick out the jams" in the middle section.
(This is the CD version from which this percussion arrangement was derrived)
